About the Gargie Award

Happy Birthday to you and me!

ILove, laugh, Life, Empowerment, inspiration, writing, book, editingt has been a year since I started this blog. To be honest I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was happy living my hermit life with my phone ringing 24/7 about finance with questions which were all the same, “Claire, I have a client with an instrument on Euroclear… Can we sell it, Can we monetize it… Can we.. Can we…? Or “Claire I have a client who is having a Private Placement Memorandum drawn… Can we take it Pre-IPO? Can we eventually IPO it?” Though I did take an hour each day between 4 and 5 to have coffee with my husband and I did get told off for texting under the table at the BBQ for Memorial Day. If I remember correctly it went something like “Claire! Are you texting someone?” I tried to squish my face into an innocent look… “No_” I waited for a minute then continued my texting to the client about how everything wasn’t going to go so fast for him that day as it was an American holiday.

“That’s it! If I have to treat you like a child then I will!” My husband was laughing as he grabbed the phone from me and hid it inside the house. I smiled, then giggled. I was now forced to be ‘nice’ to our guests that I had forgotten about. My sister-in-law laughed, “Good thing you’re not a workaholic!” “Who me? Nah!”

Alright… My life with work had gotten out of hand_ a bit_ maybe_

The following October I started to hand all of my clients over to my husband to work with. I was finished with finance, deciding to complete my book, A Broken Ring.

It was a whole new world and one very different from finance. I hadn’t placed an advertisement in years, everything and everyone I worked with was a referral.

A year ago in the middle of January I came out of my shell and said hello into a cavernous blogging world and was shocked aYou are never too old couple of people said hello back. Wow! I told myself, they didn’t laugh or rebuke me! I was stunned it took another 4 weeks for me to pluck up the courage to post again and my little post had wonderful a couple of Gravatars smiling back at me. I was hooked! I was reborn! Initiated into the mass world of bloggers.

I read everything I could about it, I followed people, some of who have now left their blogs to pursue the goals and dreams they wrote about. Some have become wonderful friends who I can exchange ideas with, be incredibly silly with as we talk about weirdywolves and dark places that only the brothers Grimm would venture into. I have learned new recipes, debated with people about politics. I have shared some heartbreaking stories with people about abuse and violence that they have endured in the past or are going through and just wanted a shoulder to virtually lean on, just for a little while, a little escapism with someone who understood.

For all of this I say, THANK YOU!

Summer <3

Summer <3

You have been so supportive over this year for my ideas, my strange thoughts. You were with me while I went through Hurricane Sandy, the loss of my brother-in-law, the cover designs of my book. You stood beside me while I learned of Awareness Months, of PTSD and Rape Trauma Syndrome. You were with me when we took trips to the city to celebrate the 4th July and to see the Christmas Tree. Even the hazy days of summer lounging lazily on the beaches of Long Island to the lighthouse at Montauk Point. Even giving me some wonderful Blogging Awards! ;-D

The thought has been spinning for a little… How did I give back? A giveaway! Did that to celebrate the New Year and you made that a success too! Still spinning_ Then I got it!

I have now over this last year become an author! A strike of the ‘ol bucketlist ;-) But a lot of you have also become authors, amazing wonderful authors! Then it clicked!

Author Interviews! Spreading the love. Sharing the stories! Woo-Hoo!

Here we go_ Once upon a time, in the land of Claire’s blog there was a wonderful author called…

As they say “Tune in next week..” as my very first author interview will be posted and I will be sharing my authors friends with you each Wednesday.

Each one different!

Each one truly freaking awesome!

The first one is with Susan Cooper of Finding Our Way Now blog and her new book, recently released about the meaning of dreams!

I’m thrilled she has given me an interview and I can’t wait to share it with you next Wednesday. If you know anyone who is interested in the meaning of dreams tell them to look for her here next week! Her illustrations are beautifully unique :-)

Oh? What? You want a bonus too!? Aperlootley! (It’s my new stupid, grammatically incorrect word of the moment, which I know you intelligent sort get straight away!) Susan Cooper has very kindly offered 3 of her books in a Giveaway next week! Speechless :-)

Thank you! :)

Thank you! :)

Thank you for making this an incredible year and for being with me on this wonderfully weird journey!

Cheers :-D

Daisy Award, for you and for me!

Yay! The Daisy Award! :-)

You may have noticed I have changed the theme of my blog and while I was trying to update everything I found I had been nominated for the Daisy Award! Ages ago! Now I feel guilty that I didn’t see it before, thinking back it was when everything in life started to go a little crazy, Nicky going  into hospital and after that… well sadly he passed, we found we had to move, we moved, we came down with the bronchial cold and then before we unpacked… Hello Sandy! Phew! Oh and last but not least I launched my book, A Broken Ring. It has been an interesting five months to say the least!

So you can imagine my surprise to find I had been nominated for the Daisy Award! I want to thank the Spineless Wonders for the honor and to Subtle Kate for creating such a great award!

So with out further ado… there are of course rules to follow:

* Thank the person who nominated you

* Tell your readers seven unusual about yourself

* Nominate some worthy bloggers

Seven unusual things about me..

Alright I’m having a tough time with this! Because what is unusual?!

1. Love fluffy socks

2. I always drink coffee black, Vin says it’s eee-yuk but I’ve drunk coffee black since I was eight years old when my mum told me it would be ‘healthier’ for us… Can’t even remember my first cup of coffee… maybe it was in a bottle! lol

3. For  the English Declamation exam/competition at school I did the talk on Witchcraft and it’s history, when I won semi-finals I was told to change it ‘Cycling” as they really couldn’t have a talk about Witchcraft and it’s history” They said it was too ‘disturbing’ to the school! lol and now years on we have been given Harry Potter ;-/

4. I believe in a ‘Higher Power” and class myself as “Spiritual” and make no assumptions on any religion as long as it harms no-one, who ever your God or Goddess maybe.

5. I’m told I’m psychic and have given readings at events including rooms of people… ‘John Edwards‘ style (That was a secret for a long time!)

6 Can never find jeans to fit me! In the 80′s it was okay because I could wear Levi’s 501′s but can’t find them now… Jeans in my size usually cost a fortune and Vin thought I was joking around until I made him come with me to find them… Not many stores stock 34″ leg! lol

7. I have vertigo  and now we have moved our front steps seem to mingle and disappear as I go down them, it’s really weird!

There you go, I think they were sort of unusual…

I look forward to reading my nominees answers!

The Inspiring Blog and Reader Appreciation Award Time! :)

Thank you! :)

Today I am trying to play catch up on my blog! It’s basically because I’ve been playing ‘hookie’… the pool and beach keep calling my name and when my inner voice tells me to keep on writing my soul tells me the weather won’t be here for that long (After all I live in NY!) so I should enjoy it.

But there’s one thing I don’t get… I watch movies too and in the movies the beautiful courageous woman takes her laptop to the beach and works a while… Seriously? Cos when I take mine outside to the table the sun glares on it and I can’t see anything on my screen! What am I doing wrong?… Ahhh! That’s right movies are fiction and lying to us that we can have our cake and eat it too… in the sunshine.

This morning I decided to stay and catch up because I feel honored! I have been given awards and it’s time to ‘Pay it Forward” :)

The Inspiring Blog Award

The Inspiring Blog Award

First of all I was given the Inspiring Blog Award from Literary Tiger The great thing about her blog is that she reads the books we think we should be reading and gives her opinion. Which I love! She doesn’t pull any punches and when she says “Tough going, gave up” you can believe it! She writes with warm humor, which I love!

Not sure what the rules are for it… so I’ll just combine them with the others! lol

The Reader Appreciation Award

The Reader Appreciation Award

The next award came from Sharla from the Catnipoflife, The Reader Appreciation Award I want to thank Sharla so much for this wonderful award. Her blog is inspiring and has a very patriotic angle too. She posts poetry and the most stunning pictures of wildlife. I followed Sharla through her husband sadly being rushed into hospital and her thoughts and total love for him and his recovery too. To sum up Sharla, she is inspiring, happy and uplifting.

To my recipients, here are the rules for this award:

  1. Award your top 6 bloggers who have commented the most.
  2. Be thankful.
  3. You cannot award someone who has already been awarded. And you cannot give the award back to me.
  4. Don’t forget to tell the bloggers you’ve awarded.
  5. If you don’t want to pass on this award, that’s okay to. Just admire it.

Final book cover for ‘A Broken Ring’ revealed ~ Ta-Dah!

I can’t believe it’s Thursday already! Where did this week go? It was supposed to be an easy quiet, laid back time… guess that went out the window!

Monday started off quietly enough, I spent some time catching up on emails, blogs I love to follow. I cruised articles and websites, thinking about how this week was going to be fun developing the cover for my book. I told myself a few ‘tweaks’ on the original cover I posted at the beginning of this blog journey should do it… (http://clairecappetta.wordpress.com/2012/01/25/the-rough-draft-of-the-book-cover-drum-role/)

Until I realized while looking for the picture I had used had been wiped from my computer… hmm.

I took the boardwalk picture while visiting a friends beach house on my Blackberry. One problem, the Blackberry died on me a month ago. It was sad. I’d had for over 2 years, seeing me through a lot of times and fitted snugly in the back pocket of my jeans on the rare occasions I went out! My husband and the store recommended that I move to Android now that my business had changed so much from reviewing documents to social media and pictures. Sorry, I digress.

Anyway, I truly thought I had emailed the picture to myself (I do this in case my computer dies). Well my laptop caught a cold a couple of months ago which in order to ‘heal’ it, was set back to factory settings. Hence I lost my original picture, completely! Vin and I scoured every where to try and find it but to no avail. Of course, the picture I uploaded to the blog wasn’t good enough to use either, so back to the drawing board!

After several ideas and pictures I developed this below. It’s of an evening with fireflies :) Perfect!

It brought to mind the light coming out of the dark, how apt as the story is one of a woman’s journey from abuse to empowerment.I put a little broken gold ring in the center, representing the circle of life and it’s journeys ( getting deep now, huh?) I’ve put the script in yellows and golds to also represent the light, but at the foot of the cover I wrote “The ride to Liberty series” in purple, to represent the purple ribbon of abuse, (http://clairecappetta.wordpress.com/2012/02/08/one-good-reason-to-wear-purple-this-month/)

The story was originally going to be called “Broken Ring” which I changed to “The Ride to Liberty”, then after discovering the story was becoming a much bigger picture, it is now going to become a trilogy, (http://clairecappetta.wordpress.com/2012/05/02/a-ride-to-liberty-aha/)

Keeping up with me so far? lol ( I have put in links to back posts to explain for new readers here)

So there you go, an explanation as to why I chose and designed this cover the way it is. I wanted it to convey a message of empowerment and inspiration:).

TA-DAH!

Love, Life, Empowerment, Inspiration, Abuse, Violence, Stalking

I want to thank you.

For all the love and support I have received from you all on this journey I  embarked on, with this blog, a little over 4 months ago. I have laughed and cried my way through it but it would be nothing without you.
