Could you forgive and forget?

Rainbow ;-D

We all have challenges to face in life. Some are wonderful ones that we keep as long treasured memories, others are stressful and I consider these challenges as ‘Learning Curves” to try and better understand people around us.

I have written in the past about domestic abuse. That this effects not only women but men too. I wrote about this as: Abused men When relationships turn bad. I wrote that post because I was thinking about my husband. In some of the posts I have shown us having fun at events or the Christmas in New York. I have even added some of his poetry, which many of you have loved and which he’s trying to turn into songs, putting music to them with his guitar. He turned to poetry and music to vent his past. He was in a 25 year abusive marriage. His wife is addicted to pain medications and alcohol. I say is because sadly she has been in and out of Detox facilities and Rehabs over the last ten years, never completing a rehab because she always had an enabling boyfriend, her relationship was a long one, roughly… 18 years by our calculations. My husband finally left 10 years ago, after pleading with her to stop seeing this man… but she couldn’t. She didn’t want to leave her boyfriend but yet she didn’t want my husband to leave either. th_depressed-man-11

Through the alcohol she became violent, very violent. He stills bears the scars where she scratched his face and drew blood. He still bears the emotional scars of her threatening him with a kitchen knife. For him and his children it was a terrible time and when my husband left the home, under the advice of Police, she couldn’t cope. His eldest move out and a year later he gained custody of his youngest. His wife went to live with her boyfriend.

Why am I posting about this today? Simple. Because last week after years of chemotherapy her boyfriend was taken into a hospice. The result of this was his ex-wife tried to commit suicide… again. The second attempt this year. Why? Because she has difficulty facing the future on her own. You see, all the partying, the alcohol etc has had one big side effect – Schizophrenia. She was diagnosed with this 10 years ago and has been on disability because of it since.

People tend to think of the side effects of being an alcoholic is kidney and liver failure – true. Also damage to the brain – true but combine this with other concoctions and you get Schizophrenia.

supporting handsIt is so sad to think that once a while ago this was a vibrant woman and not the one we see now. One we see suffering from auditory hallucinations, paranoid or delusional, disorganized speech and thinking. This illness also brings with it major depression and anxiety disorders. She will hear people not there talking to her. There will be moments where she ‘opts’ out of the current situation and don’t get me wrong this is not like PTSD where the mind crashes but we are fully aware of where we are, we just can’t get the thought processes up and running for a second, like a 2 second computer crash but we are here, no it’s not like that, this for her is a sudden total shut down, like she is asleep, then suddenly she comes back to life. Her speech is mumbled and at times incoherent, sometimes joining in conversations with the family, the next with herself. To make matters worse for her it comes with short term memory loss too.

When I researched it, to try and understand why she does the seemingly crazy things she does it started to become clear. It isn’t but it’s almost akin to Alzheimer’s, but sadly schizophrenics are depressed, very depressed and suicide is usually successful for them. It was for my husbands ex-wife last week but she was in the hospital, in ER and they brought her back. Now people who are supporting her are hoping and praying that she will enter a long rehab facility, at least two years, to become dry, to try and become a functioning member of society who can finally understand herself.Domestic Violence, Domestic Abuse, Pain, Sexual Assault

Usually family and friends desert schizophrenics because they lose patience with them, get angry at them. This leads to many homeless and living on the streets. His ex-wife’s family has deserted her… The only people who haven’t are a couple of her friends, her children and my husband… Let me repeat that last little bit for you, my husband. Even though he has scars from her, memories of her trying to drive them both off a bridge after a hospital visit, the beatings he took, the verbal and mental abuse over the years.

Trust me… He doesn’t forgive nor does he forget but if you needed one man to be there for you in the worst of times as well as the best, he’s there. A true and loyal friend, even when you’re an abusive ex-wife.

Do you think you could support someone like this? Could you? Think about it… Someone who physically tortured, beat and mentally abused you? I’m not sure I could to be honest with mine or maybe I would, because her situation is different to my abusers. I know neither of us hold any ‘ill will’ to her.

If I met my abusers I would still like to poke their eyes out with a wet ferret… Sorry that’s an old Yorkshire saying -  “It’s better than a poke in the eye with a wet ferret!” Seriously… would you want to tackle a wet ferret? No… You wouldn’t…!

The Goodreads Giveaway for A Broken Ring

It has been an amazing week!

As I posted before in the week I set up an Indiegogo Campaign to help finance a publicist and to spread the word on Domestic Violence. People have been wonderful since sharing it through Twitter, Facebook, Google+ etc and I want to thank you for helping me. It means so much and what completely blew me away was a donation to kick it off from Bethany Lee. from Project Whitespace. I love her blogs and she has just completed a marathon too! How awesome is that! It made my day and I couldn’t help but do a little dance! lol

My Goodreads Giveaway ended today and was blown away to find 927 people entered into it! 420 people added it to their Goodread shelves to read… Beautiful :-)

To also cap off the week perfectly I am going to Sword-chinned‘s poetry reading from her recently published book: Mean Spirited Tales! (Click on the link to go to her Amazon Page)

Mean Spirited Tales

It will be followed by the movie, Night of the Living dead… how great is that to get ready for Halloween… and of course the Perfect Storm Sandy heading our way. Oh what fun! :-0

Oh and last but not least I managed to A Broken Ring registered into KDP Select this week too. Now that’s going to be an interesting one to watch!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and if I don’t post much at the beginning of next week it may be because we got a tad swamped inthe storm and the electricity may be a problem. If you are going to be in it too please stay safe!.. and dry!

Indiegogo is a go for A Broken Ring

It took longer than I thought it would… but then everything seems to take longer to set up than I think! I look at sites to be set up and think “Ah.. will only take an hour!” and four hours later I finally sit back with a “Phew, finished!”

But I did it!!

I now have an Indiegogo campaign!!!

Why?

I am looking to raise funds through crowdfunding to fund a publicist because I know a publicist will be able to get the word out there better than me. Firstly for the book and secondly which is what I consider even more the word of domestic violence and abuse.

A Broken Ring domestic violence abuse

The purple ribbon for Domestic Violence Awareness month

I have watched the news this month, seeing a lot of pink for breast cancer awareness which is truly needed and awesome but not a lot about the fact that it was also Domestic Violence Awareness Month too. I even posted on a Facebook of a news channel asking what and when were they going to cover it… when I checked back later to see if maybe I had received a response, even just a simple “Like” to the comment I found my comment had been deleted! The only comments that  were left there focused about how cable needed to bring it back :-/

This is why I have put up a campaign on Indiegogo to raise funds to get the message out there!

I really hope you can support me by sharing this campaign. Please tweet, Facebook, blog… raise a flag lol Anything! :-) It would be so greatly appreciated!!

Thank you, Thank you… and by the way Thank you!!!!

It says it all! <3

Did someone say ‘Bliss’? Pffft!

Thank you for bearing with me through my move and offering wonderful comments and wishes for our new place.

It has been stressful… actually I wish I could think of a stronger word for that… Stressful. It seems to just slip of the tongue like “Ah It was just… ice-cream” Hmm. Let me think… Alright, try this one. “It was REALLY FREAKING stressful!’ Followed by a small scream. Yes I think that does it.

Oh yes, in my last posting I mentioned I was getting an office, my own space, my space of bliss. This turned into my husband’s space with his computer, his chair and yes let’s not forget… His guitars. One, two, three and breathe deep! Ahh… Let me just check if I feel better or even remotely good about this this for one moment. No! No! I don’t. (Scream, no in fact once again, screeeaaammmm!) Ah better! Well actually he did get a little upset with me today as I dragged his favorite desk out of his office and into our bedroom away from noise. Now I can fall asleep at night smiling happily at my friend, my laptop. Do you think I’m losing it yet? lol

My yummy green

On a much brighter note I have inherited quite a nice little garden. I have green peppers growing which made excellent Italian Sausage and peppers dish with freshly grown basil. I have little cherry tomatoes falling each day like small red jewels singing “Eat me” if only I was called Alice instead!

My little herb garden :)

To top it off we have purple flowers, which seem absolutely appropriate for this months National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Purple flowers for October ;-D

In amongst all of this I have been invited to a cocktail party this Thursday for Breast Cancer Awareness and I’ve asked if I could donate a copy of my book in the giveaways. This seemed a ray of glistening sunlight amidst such a hectic week until I realized I have a dress to wear, just not the shoes. I spoke with my friend and we both agreed that biker boots are really not quite the right attire to go with a little black dress. The next day I went on the hunt! I have found the ugliest cutest shoes. Do you like the oxymoron there?

You know when you find a pair of shoes and say “Those are the ugliest things I have ever seen! I need them!” Or maybe you don’t, maybe it’s just me… maybe because I know no-one else will have the guts to wear them, therefore I have no fear of accidentally matching someone’s shoes and saying “Snap!”

Furry, Shiny Cocktail shoes!

Sorry? What did you say? “Are they furry?” “Why, yes they are! How very astute of you to notice!” I am indeed going to a cocktail party next Thursday in ugly, furry cocktail shoes! Bet you can’t beat that?  huh?

I hope you have had a wonderful week with no stress at at all, if not don’t worry. You can tell me… I promise to keep it secret! … Or I could always lend you a pair of furry cocktail shoes! Huh? There’s something not so lightly to be passed up on!

I hope you are all having a wonderful Sunday :)

It’s here! A Broken Ring is here!

It arrived today!  The book… My book! A Broken Ring :)

Vin asked me earlier to day while I was quietly waiting for it to arrive how I felt… A total mixture of excitement, trepidation of will it be how I imagined? Will it look okay? to the simple crazy of… Will it look like a book?! lol.

Well… it has pages with writing on it so that’s a start, I looked again… yes they are my words I chose to write it! It looks like it did online lol.

It is a book, my book and I’m in disbelief as now it’s reality, no more talking about writing or editing , even formatting,,, it is a complete book and to top it off, it’s glossy. Sweet! :)

I checked the first couple of pages and there is the Dedication I wrote to Vin and my children.

Empowerment, Insiration, Domestic Violence, Abuse

Dedications in A Broken Ring

Secondly I checked the Acknowledgments and yes they are there too. The first to my father who was my rock, the second to my sister, thirdly to Dennis Golden of IM-Safe for his encouragement and inspiration and lastly but by no means least one of the most important people who have been in my life over the last few months as I traveled this journey… YOU GUYS!!!

So exciting! My new website for A Broken Ring revealed and REALLY need your help!

Okay I know that’s a long title for a blog but I really do need your help!!

No Joke!

I have found an incredible service for website development for website dummies like me who still can’t work out how to post my pictures in a side bar on my blog! lol

It’s called webs.com and is really really easy and so cool to use. I love it:) It took me a couple of days to fully get everything on it but I did… The Book trailer, the cover, synopsis… everything and I’m just so excited about it!

However this is where I need your help because a while ago I was talking to a friend and my imagination kicked in big time! As we talked I came up with the idea of how it would be amazing if it was more interactive. Lets face it, everyone can look at a website and get information but what if… and here it is!… What if I made it really interactive… with forums where people can interact about the topics the book raises… where people can connect together… a virtual coffee shop/ book club incorporating topics like Empowerment, Inspiration, Abuse, Stalking. People can talk about what they went through, how they started to heal or are looking to heal, Forums to help build self confidence and self awareness.

I can do this and pay the funds to make it a private site which in turn will become clairecappetta.com instead of clairecappetta.webs.com… Then I can keep the Forums private and confidential but I need to know if it would interest you? Would you be on board with it?

Would you like to meet people in a relaxed forum?

Please let me know what you think and your ideas on it as I think it could be a vibrant place full of different people, different cultures full of energy and support.

So here it is! Revealed! Ta-Dah!!!

(Please click on the link below for it to open in a new window)
